Cole Mough is a Founding Engineer at Group1, where he owns cathode materials and process development. He is a chemist with six years in battery research, focused on cathode synthesis and materials characterization for beyond-lithium chemistries.
His work centers on Potassium Prussian White (KPW) cathode active material — the foundation of Group1's Kristonite™ platform — and on the scale-up that turns a laboratory reaction into a manufacturable process. He designs and refines workflows across every stage of synthesis, brings process engineering discipline to the bench, and keeps the lab's instrumentation running: repair, maintenance, calibration.
He characterizes cathode, anode, and electrolyte materials across SEM, TEM, XRD, XRF, Raman, FTIR, UV-Vis, TGA-DTG, laser diffraction, and four-point probe measurements. What he enjoys most is the distance between the two ends — taking a small experiment and building it into a reliable, repeatable process.
Cole earned a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry with a minor in Mathematics from Texas State University. He brings more than a decade of service industry experience and hands-on mechanical work from a machine shop, including automotive air suspension systems and general work on cars, motorcycles, and dirt bikes.
Outside of work, he restores classic cars — a 1969 Austin-Healey Sprite and a 1971 Datsun 240Z. He also spends time gaming, camping, fishing, traveling, and staying active.
