Martin Z. Bazant is the Chevron Professor of ChemicalEngineering and Applied Mathematics at MIT and serves as Digital LearningOfficer in MIT Chemical Engineering. His group develops physics-based models ofelectrochemical systems and transport phenomena, with research spanningelectrochemical interfaces, reaction kinetics, phase transformations, and otherfundamentals that directly impact battery performance and lifetime. He servedas Executive Officer of MIT’s Department of Chemical Engineering from 2016 to2020 and has led battery-focused initiatives including Toyota ResearchInstitute’s Data-Driven Design of Rechargeable Batteries (D3BATT) and theCenter for Battery Sustainability.
Professor Bazant joined Group1’s Advisory Board in 2023 tohelp accelerate potassium-ion battery development—bringing deep expertise inelectrochemical science, cell-level modeling, and rapid iteration methods thatconnect fundamental materials behavior to scalable product engineering.
